Tutorial # 10 - Finishing a Christmas Stocking
Images showing the wrong side of the stitched stocking with the fabric underneath, and the fabric side after stitching a piece of fabric to the stocking.
When putting your stocking together, choose some suitable Christmas fabric or stitch another stocking in reverse to be the back. Put the two pieces together, right sides facing each other. Carefully stitch the two sides together using a straight stitch.
Do not stitch across the top of the stocking. Hint: If you are using a fabric for the back of the stocking, it is easier to stitch with the Silk gauze side facing you so that you can see the outline of the stocking. |
Turn your stocking right-side out
Tip: An easy way to do this is to use a drinking straw. Insert the straw into the stocking, down to the toe, then use a dull stick (such as the end of a thin paint brush) and push it carefully from the toe end of the stocking into the straw. Carefully feed the stocking onto the dull, thin stick and turn it right side out.
Your stocking is now finished! You can dress it up by filling it with little goodies, such as tiny candy canes, teddy bears, etc. Have fun with it! You could also decide to glue a tiny loop onto the back of the stocking at the top to give it more realism. My loop of choice is a cord of braided or twisted floss strands in a couple of the colors you used in your stocking. |
