As a young child, I always found myself drawing or painting. Any free time I had was spent doodling and I have always been drawn to painting. I took every art class I could in school and even did a co-op position teaching art at a neighboring school during my final year in High School. I attended the University of Waterloo where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. During my studies, I was able to work with many mediums but always came back to painting. After graduating, I have done some commissions and worked in a local art store. I accompanied my mother to a local miniature show and saw some amazing miniature paintings. My mother challenged me to do some miniature paintings of my own and I did a few for her Mother's Day gift one year. She loved them so much that she wanted me to do more. After these paintings, I started painting some with a view to selling them at the next Miniature Show in May 2020. Currently, I am building up stock for the show.
One of my favorite mediums is acrylic and have enjoyed overcoming the challenges that I face painting something in miniature. I often use photos of landscapes as my inspiration but never paint them exactly as the picture is. I like to use the photo for an idea but incorporate my own ideas to make it uniquely mine. Often, for relaxation, I watch Bob Ross videos on YouTube and, one day, decided to try and paint a painting similar to his, using his techniques, but in miniature. It was interesting trying to find items and brushes that I could use to imitate his technique. Here is one that I painted using his video as my inspiration. It is approximately 1" x 1 1/4" in size and will be making an appearance at the May miniature show in Fergus, Ontario.
